Mathematical Formulae and Statistical Tables, Issue 1, July 2017. One booklet for 8MA0, 9MA0, 8FM0 and 9FM0.
Given in the exam
A Level Maths formula booklet
The A Level Maths formula booklet is not one file. Edexcel hands out a book. AQA hands out a different book, and also publishes a list of results you must know without being given them. OCR prints the sheet in the question paper.
Formulae for A-level Mathematics, version 1.2, first issued August 2017. Required for 7356 and 7357.
The larger booklet, version 1.5, February 2018. Required for further maths. AQA also allows it in AS and A-level Mathematics exams.
The formulae sheet is printed at the front of the question paper, including the statistical tables those papers use.
Given in the booklet, or not given at all
AQA's Appendix B is easy to misread. Its heading says students must be able to use those formulae and identities for AS and A-level Mathematics without these formulae and identities being provided. That list includes the quadratic formula, index and log laws, the sine and cosine rules, standard derivatives and integrals, and the mean of a data set. It is a memory list, not the exam booklet.
Read Appendix B on AQA's site. The booklet you are given is the separate PDF above. Pearson's assessment guide says the formulae students may be given are the ones in Mathematical Formulae and Statistical Tables, and that the same booklet is used for every Mathematics and Further Mathematics paper.
What each board actually puts in front of you
| Board | In the exam | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Edexcel GCE | One booklet, including statistical tables | Pearson PDF, Issue 1 (July 2017) |
| AQA 7357 | Mathematics formulae booklet | AQA filestore, v1.2 |
| AQA 7367 | Larger booklet of formulae and statistical tables | AQA filestore, v1.5 |
| OCR H240 / H640 | Sheet printed in the question paper | Front of each paper |
The Pearson booklet's contents, in the file itself, run from pure mathematics through statistics and mechanics, then statistical tables: binomial cumulative probabilities, percentage points of the normal distribution, the Poisson cumulative function, chi-squared, critical values for correlation, random numbers, Student's t and the F distribution. The numbers in those tables are in the PDF. They are not retyped here.
Using it while you revise
Revise with the booklet closed when you are learning a result that Appendix B says is not provided. Open the official booklet when you are practising a paper, so you learn which result is in the book you will be given. Results that are not in that book still have to be derived or remembered.
Pair this page with A Level Maths past papers when you want a full script, and with grade boundaries when you want the June 2026 totals. Further Mathematics candidates using Edexcel already have their formulae in the same Pearson book.
Questions people ask
- Is the formula booklet given to you in the exam?
- Edexcel provides Mathematical Formulae and Statistical Tables. AQA provides its formulae booklet for 7357. OCR prints the formulae sheet inside each H240 and H640 question paper. You do not take your own annotated copy into the exam.
- Why are there two Edexcel books?
- UK GCE and Pearson International A Level are different qualifications. This page links the UK GCE booklet only. If you sit IAL, use the booklet named for that qualification on Pearson's site.
- Is the Further Maths booklet the same?
- Edexcel uses one booklet for Mathematics and Further Mathematics. AQA has a smaller mathematics booklet and a larger further-mathematics booklet. OCR Further Maths has its own formulae in those papers.
- Can I print a copy to revise from?
- Yes, for revision. The copy in the exam is the one the board issues. A printed copy you have written on is not a substitute.
